The 15-Minute Kids' Cabinet Upgrade: Bunny Knobs + Colourful Legs on an IKEA Kallax
The IKEA Kallax is probably already in your kids' room. It's sturdy, practical and endlessly useful. It's also a little bit… plain.
The good news? You don't need paint, sandpaper or a free weekend to change that. Two small swaps turn a white storage box into a cabinet your child will actually want to open: playful BUNNY knobs on the doors and colourful legs underneath.
It takes about 15 minutes, a screwdriver and zero DIY experience. Let's hop to it.
What you need
- An IKEA Kallax with door inserts. This guide uses the 2-cell horizontal Kallax with two doors, but the idea works on any size.
- Ceramic BUNNY knobs, one per door. They come in 5 happy colours: yellow, pink, rose, light blue and white.
- 4 furniture legs. Pick round pastel legs for a soft, playful look or natural wood for a calmer one.
- A screwdriver, plus a drill if you want to pre-drill pilot holes for the legs.
- 15 minutes. Two sets of little helping hands are optional but highly recommended.
One Kallax, three looks
1. Sunny & natural. Yellow bunny knobs, wooden turned legs, a jute rug and linen curtains. It's warm and calm, with a pop of happy yellow. This look suits any child and grows well from nursery to school age.

2. Pastel party. One pink bunny and one blue bunny, round pink legs, and a rainbow rug. Mismatched on purpose, because the most fun rooms never take themselves too seriously.

3. Soft rose. Rose bunny knobs and blush pink legs against a sage-green wall. Pink and green are opposites on the colour wheel, so they make each other glow. It feels cosy and just a little bit grown-up.

Can't decide? Mix all five colours across a bigger Kallax, one bunny per door, for a full rainbow. Kids love choosing "their" colour.
Quick questions
Do BUNNY knobs fit IKEA Kallax door inserts? Yes. They screw into the existing pre-drilled hole, and the included screw fits door thickness.
Can I put legs on a Kallax? Yes, with mounting plates screwed into the solid edges of the bottom panel.
Are ceramic knobs OK for a kids' room? They're glazed, smooth and rounded, and easy to wipe clean. Screw them in snugly so small hands can't twist them loose.
Will this work on other IKEA furniture? The knobs fit most doors and drawers with a standard knob hole. Think RAST, HEMNES or BESTÅ.
